Writing fiction has always been Ben’s first passion. To date, he has written two novels and is working on a third. Both of his first two fiction titles, ‘The Kraken’s Curse’ (released in 2008) and ‘Walking on Cinders’ (released in 2010) were published independently with the support of Ben’s former school, King Edward VII, in Melton Mowbray.
Ben’s non-fiction writing is centered on his research interests in the history and culture of the Southern United States, with a particular focus on country music and Americana. Ben has written several pieces, including his undergraduate dissertation on the ‘Changing British Attitude to Country Music’ and an article on the blending of genre boundaries in country music.
Walking on Cinders Reading
In March 2020, during the first COVID-19 lockdown in the UK, Ben decided that it would be nice to do something positive to bring people together in trying times. He decided to read from his book Walking on Cinders, each evening on his Twitter account. You can listen again to the whole series right here.
The Kraken’s Curse Reading
In March 2020, when the UK lockdown was announced to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, Ben took to Twitter to do a daily live reading from his novel Walking on Cinders to celebrate 10 years since the book was published. Ben felt it would be nice to continue the daily readings by moving on to his first novel, The Kraken’s Curse, which was released in 2008.
