About the event

Ben Atkinson is a singer-songwriter, broadcaster and academic with an infectious passion for the music of rural America, from country music, through gospel, the blues and more recently folk music, he has channelled his passion into two albums of original material, a long running popular radio programme and a soon to be published PhD thesis.

Ben’s second album, Country Folk, was released in January 2025, and he will be touring throughout the summer to promote the record. Written half in the UK and half in Nashville, Country Folk is a collection of new material reflecting on love, life and loss, the current state of the world and the strands that bind us all together.

Ben has been sharing his passion for American roots music for over sixteen years on his weekly radio programme, Ben’s Country Music Show, which is broadcast around the world and features a blend of country, roots, Americana and bluegrass alongside conversation and live sessions from artists in the UK and US.

Ben splits his time between the UK, where he lives in the beautiful cathedral city of Lincoln with his young son and two grumpy lionhead rabbits, the USA and Belgium, where he is in the final throes of writing a PhD on the contemporary women performers of Nashville’s vibrant country music community.
